Florida College & USF corridor · Minutes to both campuses

Temple Terrace

The established choice, and the closest. Mature tree-lined streets, a real town centre, and a short hop to Florida College and USF alike. Rarely the cheap option -- people who move here tend to stay, so turnover is low and well-kept homes hold their value.

What it is actually like

Temple Terrace is its own city, not a subdivision, and it feels like it. The streets are mature and shaded, the golf course sits in the middle of town rather than behind a gate, and the river bends around the northern edge. It was laid out in the 1920s, so the older sections have the deep lots and irregular street patterns that newer development does not reproduce.

Getting to campus

Florida College sits inside the city limits, so for FC families this is often a walk, a bike ride, or a five-minute drive. USF sits just west across Fowler, close enough that faculty and staff regularly cycle it. I-75 is a couple of minutes east, which is what makes the rest of Tampa reachable without living in traffic.

Schools

Served by Hillsborough County Public Schools, with Temple Terrace Elementary and Greco Middle inside the city. Florida College Academy draws families from across the corridor, and its presence is part of why this pocket holds the community it does.

What the homes are like

Mostly single-family, and genuinely varied: 1950s-70s ranches and split-levels on generous lots through the older sections, a smaller number of newer infill builds, and some riverfront property along the Hillsborough. Block construction is common. Lots are typically larger than what you find in newer Tampa development.

Who it suits

Families moving for Florida College or Florida College Academy who want to be able to walk it. USF faculty and staff who want a short commute and an established neighbourhood rather than a new-build subdivision. Alumni and families with ties to Florida College who want to be near campus. Anyone who values mature trees and a town centre over a clubhouse and a gate.
